Young researcher's urged to 'unlock the secrets of nature'

Keynote speaker, structural engineer Peter Head OBE from Arup, presented this year's young researchers with a massive challenge, suggesting that learning from nature was the platform for future research in a world where sustainable development was vital. He painted a large canvas of opportunity across the built environment, in areas where traditionally structural engineers might not have ventured, covering social, economic and environmental issues. 'Sustainable development is in your and your universities' hands' he told the students; research was the only way to find out how to deliver what was needed. 'Scientists and engineers must find a radical, economic way to support a sustainable lifestyle'.
