Information and Emotion: The Emergent Affective Paradigm in Information Behavior Research and Theory

Until the 1990s the role of feelings in information seeking and processing were perhaps underestimated and certainly under-examined. Diane Nahl and Dania Bilal's edited book on the topic remedies that neglect, and demonstrates that it is a fertile area for further investigation. The book carries impressive blurbs from authorities on human-computer interaction, such as Donald Norman and Ben Schneiderman, as well as from luminaries from the world of librarianship, demonstrating that the topic has value in both library services and human factors research. I found something of value in each of the 17 chapters-the quality of which is reasonably even (unlike many compilations of this type).
