There are many excellent books on the American Civil War (1861-65) and almost all aspects of this epic struggle have already been thoroughly explored. Nonetheless, Professor Donald Stoker's timely book, published just before the 150th anniversary of the start of the war, presents a succinct account of its military operations and additionally provides thorough and informative discussion of those strategies adopted by both the Union and Confederacy.
