By demonstrating in a compelling manner that DNA was not intended by Cajetan as an exposition of Thomas Aquinas' doctrine of analogy, but rather as an attempt to answer the objection, issuing from Duns Scotus, that argumentation employing analogical terms necessarily commits the fallacy of equivocation, Hochschild eliminates from the scholarly conversation much of the motive behind the standard complaint that Cajetan got Thomas wrong. Here a neuralgic point has always been his identification of the analogy of proportionality as genuine analogy, as opposed to the analogy of inequality (as when the term "body" is predicated of both inferior and superior bodies) and the analogy of attribution (as when "healthy" is predicated of an exercise regime or of urine because each is related to the health of a body).
