Project owner jailed for VAT fraud

A scam involving the transfer of rolling stock from the Denbigh & Mold Junction Railway Society to Park Royal Vehicles Ltd netted ￡32,000 in reclaimed VAT from sale of stock said to be worth ￡185,100. Richard Thornton, who owned the site at Bodfari where the railway project was to be based, was found guilty of registering a false company and VAT return fraud. He was sentenced to 214 years in jail.
