Severn Valley DMU gutted by fire

Much of the interior of the Severn Valley Railway's Class 108 DMBS No. M51935 was damaged by fire during the night of April 30 at Kidderminster. The vehicle, a unique dining car conversion, was over the pit in the canvas 'tent' outside the carriage works for minor attention and stripping of the interior. The blaze destroyed the remaining interior and blackened the windows, but the bodywork is not thought to be seriously affected. The cause of the fire is not yet known; an electrical fault is suspected although arson has not been ruled out. The vehicle will be repaired, but will not return to service this season.
