The West Somerset Railway was faced with little option but to abandon the 'British Railways Steam 1948-68' theme for its March 8-9 and 13-16 spring steam gala due to booked visiting locos dropping out during February. Hopes that LMS 4-6-0 No. 5690 Leander would return to Somerset for the first time in more than 40 years were dashed as it became clear that running repairs at the East Lancs Railway would not be completed in time.
