It was the end of an era on October 3, when, after more than 145 years of railway services, the line affectionately known as the Oldham Loop, ran its last passenger train. Like the lines from Manchester to Bury and Manchester to Altrincham, which both closed in 1991, the Oldham line is being converted into a tramway as part of Manchester's expanding Metrolink operation.
