ORR clears sale of Cauldon Low branch

The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) has consented to the sale of the Cauldon Low branch by Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd to Moorland & City Railway (MCR)-in effect, the Churnet Valley Railway. The linernbetween Leek Brook Junction (the present terminus of the CVR) and the limestone quarries at Cauldon Low has been disused since 1989 and been recorded by NR as non-operational since 1997. The MCR intends to reinstate the line for use by Churnet Valley Railway heritage trains, although the rights of freight operators to use the line in the future remain protected.
