A recent recruit to the ranks of the canine collectors in the cause of railway charity is an intelligent fox terrier named 'Spot'. 'Spot' arrived by train at Bexley a few weeks ago, consigned to a gentleman who neither expected nor required the animal, and would not take it in. Consequently, the dog was thrown on the hands of the South-Eastern and Chatham Railway at Bexley, and Mr Robbins, the stationmaster, eventually received instructions to destroy or dispose of the dog. As no buyer could be found, Mr Robbins decided to train the dog, and with the assistance of his men to collect, by means of a collecting box on the dog's back, for the Railwaymen's Convalescent Home at Herne Bay.
