After many decades in which the main line scene has been without a working member of the 'Royal Scot' class, two have come along together like proverbial London buses! Less than 12 months after the exclusive unveiling of No. 6115 Scots Guardsman on the cover of last June's Railway Magazine, newly-restored sister No. 6100 Royal Scot was revealed on the cover of our May issue. No. 6100 is expected to return to the main line later this year for the first time since 1962. It would be iniquitous to attempt comparisons between locomotive restorations on the grounds of how much they cost. Suffice to say that the return of the world-famous LMS icon is right up there in the 'big' category. Big in terms of status and big as in a total bill, with an eye-watering £1 million bottom line.
