France And Spain Build More Hs Lines

To stimulate its economy in the global recession, France has set an example to its European neighbours by announcing that it is to invest 13.4bn euros in the constrution of four new Lignes a Grand Vitesse (LGV) simultaneously in 2010-2014. Two of the new high-speed lines will be built between Le Mans and Rennes and between Tours and Bordeaux. The other two will comprise an extension of LGV Est to Strasbourg and arnNi mes/Montpelier bypass line. Together, they total 699km.rnIn Spain, a further extension to the high-speed network is due to open next year serving Madrid-Valencia and Alicante (914km). The recently-opened Cordoba-Malaga and Madrid-valladolid sections have already achieved 99 per cent train punctuality rates.
