Super Express Trains are put on hold

HSTs will continue operating front-line services in Britain for several years longer following a Government decision to defer a ruling on Super Express Trains until after the general election. The SET project, also known as the Intercity Express Programme (IEP), had advanced to such a stage that a preferred bidder, Agility Trains, and a preferred manufacturer, Hitachi, had been selected (RM April 2009) but on February 26, Transport Secretary Lord Adonis said the whole affair was being put on hold.
