Network SouthEast was created in 1986 as a result of a decision to lump all the commuter services of the South-East (regardless of historical BR Region) into one business and brand all the trains and stations accordingly. Under the energetic leadership of Chris Green, NSE became extremely well-known and passengers even grew to appreciate the attempts to integrate and interface services and routes that had traditionally been separate.
