Manston runs at WSR galabut not Raveningham Hall

HEADLINE visitors for the West Somerset Railway's September 29-October 2 Autumn Steam Gala were Southern Locomotives Ltd's' Battle of Britain' No. 34070 Manston (anticipated) and No. 5029 Nunney Castle (a late addition). They joined previously announced two gala guests, LNER N2 0-6-2T No. 1744 and Locomotive 5542 Ltd's GWR Small Prairie No. 5542. Unfortunately, Nunney Castle encountered trouble on September 30, curtailing further operation. An axlebox oil filter became loose and caught in the spokes of the leading left driving wheel and broke off. An awkward problem to repair, the adjacent spring along with some pipework and motion had to be removed to enable lifting the'Castle'to gain access to the axlebox keep into which the spout is screwed.
