Caledonian jewel wows Severn Valley's crowds

CALEDONIAN Railway 0-6-0 No. 828, making its first appearance at a heritage line other than its Strathspey Railway home, stole the show at the Severn Valley Railway's September 23-25 Autumn Gala. Joining the magnificent CR blue visitor (owned by the Scottish Locomotive Preservation Trust Fund) as gala guests were A1 No. 60163 Tornado, No. 6024 King Edward I and 4160 Ltd's GWR Large Prairie No. 4160. Also, 9F 2-10-0 No. 92212 (which has spent the summer at the SVR) ran during the event before returning to its Mid-Hants Railway base at the end of September. With such a strong visiting motive power fleet, only four SVR-based locos participated at various times, these including GWR 2-8-0 No. 2857 and No. 7812 Erlestoke Manor. Although booked to appear, No. 5029 Nunney Castle (from Tyseley) was withdrawn for slightly obscure reasons just prior to the event, hence the late addition of No. 4160.
