A dispute has broken out between the West Coast Railway Co and the A1 Steam Trust over maintenance and operation of A1 No. 60163 Tornado. A senior WCRC spokesman, speaking exclusively to The RM, said it was highly unlikely that they would be operating the re-liveried locomotive on the main line following its winter maintenance period at York. The dispute is not related to the major boiler repairs recently undertaken in Germany (see Railtours, p76), but to cylinder re-bore work, which was carried out by non-WCRC approved engineering contractors. The WCRC spokesman said the trust had previously been informed that the use of non-approved contractors would mean West Coast not being able to operate the locomotive.
