￡8.6m appeal to finish FR/WHR

The Ffestiniog Railway/Welsh Highland Railway launched a major appeal in December linked to the phraselet's Finish The Job'. Having completed Phase 4 - the physical construction of the WHR from Caernarfon to Porthmadog, where it links with the Ffestiniog - the two railways want to move on to Phase 5, for which they need to raise up to ￡8.6million over the next decade. The money, if raised, will be spent as follows: 1. Widening The Cob for a platform for WHR trains (￡700,000) plus track and signalling work (￡300,000). 2. New WHR loco shed at Dinas (￡700,000) 3. Extending Dinas carriage shed (￡300,000) 4. Ten new carriages (￡1.2m) 5. Additional WHR loops (￡100,000) 6. An infrastructure and maintenance base at Minffordd (￡350,000) 7. New loco shed at Boston Lodge (￡600,000).
