Peckett 0-6-0ST Ashington No. 5 (1979/39) was launched back into service at the North Tyneside Railway on November 24 by the Mayor of North Tyneside and Jack Milburn, the son of Tyneside football legend Jackie Milburn, in front of NTR volunteers and guests. The loco worked on the Ashington Coal Company system from new until 1969 when the NCB sold it to the North Norfolk Railway. It returned to Northumberland in 1991 and became known affectionately as 'Jackie Milburn'after the Newcastle United footballer. Withdrawn from service around 2003, it has required a new firebox in addition to needing a full overhaul. Following fundraising efforts and receipt of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, work started in 2006 with the boiler work being undertaken by Israel Newton's of Bradford.
