West Clare's museum hits block

Plans for a road and rail museum adjacent to the West Clare Railway have been rejected. Under discussion for a year, the project has foundered following objections by Ireland's National Roads Authority. The railway, based at Moyasta Junction, introduced steam in July 2009 when the last-surviving West Clare Railway steam loco, Dubs 0-6-2T No. 5C Slieve Callan, returned to operation following overhaul by Alan Keef Ltd. The museum was envisaged as furthering development of the railway, which has ambitions to extend backto Kilrush.
