Original Russell nameplate returns

A 1942 Russell nameplate, thought to have been lost since 1953 but saved by an enthusiast and presented to the Industrial Railway Society following his death, has been loaned to the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway. It was presented to WHHR chairman Martyn Owen by Bob Darvill, on behalf of the IRS, on November 20 during the Warley Model Railway exhibition in Birmingham. It is one of two plates made for the 1906-built Welsh Highland loco at the steelworks in Brymbo near Wrexham when Russell was refurbished there in 1942. WHHR already owns the other plate. Hunslet 2-6-2T Russell should return to service during 2011 following overhaul at WHHR's Gelert's Farm, workshops which will return it to 1906 as-built appearance.
