Volunteers attending The Epping Ongar Railway social evening at North Weald station on October 22, were surprised when Class 37 No.D6729 suddenly appeared and was greeted with cheers and applause. The newly-restored loco had been hidden up The line ready for its unannounced appearance.It had made its preservation debut at The Mid-Norfolk Railway's Class 37 anniversary event in September (RM Dec p83), and had been moved to North Weald under cover of darkness. It is an appropriate loco for The line as it was originally based at Stratford, and now carries a 30A shedplate again.
