Paisley electrification begins

Electrification of the Paisley Canal route began just before the end of September, following extensive preparatory work. The £12million scheme is due for completion by December and covers the five miles from Corkerhill depot to Paisley. It is the first project under a new alliance between Network Rail and ScotRail. The alliance has seen the original cost reduced from £28m. To accommodate the works with minimum disruption, from October 1 to November 8 (Monday to Thursday) services will stop by 20.00, while Friday trains will operate as per the timetable. The line will also be closed on Saturday from September 29 until November 3.
