War Office Hunslet stripped as overhaul gets into its stride

The chassis of the War Office Locomotive Trust's ex-WDLR Hunslet 4-6-0T No. 303 (HE 1215/16) has been stripped. Removal of the cast iron smokebox saddle from between the frames proved very difficult, resulting in some further harm to the already damaged casting. Repairs will be undertaken by a specialist and formal quotation of costs for stitch weldinq is awaited.
