THE GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY'S LINCOLN LINK

Although the Great Western Railway had numerous links with the North-East of Englanc one doesn't readily associate the GWR in any way with the city of Lincoln. However, in March 1925, the GWR ordered a total of 80 superheated tapered Belpaire locomotive boilers from Ruston & Hornsby in that city. These were made up of 60 Standard No.4 boilers, which were all received at Swindon before the end of 1926, of which some were earmarked for immediate incorporation in new 52XX 2-8-OTs then being built there.
