Network Rail to return £310m to Government

Network Rail is on course to return £310million to the UK and Scottish governments by 2014, NR chief executive David Higgins told the annual general meeting on July 19. The split would be around £250m to the UK and £60m to Scotland. The AGM was informed that infrastructure failures had reduced by 24% since April 2009, punctuality was at 91.6% of meeting target and in 2011/12, 7.3 million trains were run, carrying 1.46 billion passengers - 0.5bn more than the previous year on a million more trains than 10 years ago.
