Siemens to build more freight electrics for Australia

Australian mining company BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has awarded Siemens a contract to supply 13 1,067mm gauge 25kV heavy-haul electric locomotives to help BMA in starting rail operations in Queensland, Australia. The company will use the locos to transport coal for export from its Caval Ridge and Daunia mines to the Hay Point Coal Terminal on the Coral Sea coast between Townsville and Rockhampton.
