Thmbs-up for Severn Valley's diesel-only gale

Organisers of the Severn Valley Railway's'100 per cent' diesel gala experiment hailed the event a success, although passenger figures were a little disappointing at 2,165 compared with a target of 2,400. However, plans are in place for the diesel-only festival to be repeated at the 2012 October gala - with the same Thursday to Saturday format - and it is hoped that the popularity of the event will increase. Encouragingly, there were no adverse comments regarding the lack of steam haulage on the Saturday. Visiting locos were Class 25 No. D7612 from the South Devon Railway; Class 40 No. D3066 from Boden Railway Engineering, Washwood Heath; Class 31 No. 31190 from Devon & Cornwall Railways (BARS); and Class 14 No. D9520 from the Nene Valley Railway.
