Spanish crash driver got three speed warnings

Information extracted from the data recorders of the Spanish'Avila'train that crashed at Santiago de Compostela on July 24, killing 79 passengers, shows that the driver was alerted by an audible cab warning three times on the approach to the fatal curve. Forensic tests on the recorders showed that the last warning came just 250 metres before the sharp 50mph-restricted curve where the derailment occurred. At that point, the train's speed was 121 mph. It came off the rails at 111mph. Driver Francisco Garzon was on the phone to a Renfe controller when the accident occurred. He has been charged with multiple counts of negligent homicide.
