'Transport for Edinburgh'launched

Edinburgh trams and Lothian Buses are to be joined in a single transport body called Transport for Edinburgh. The new organisation will oversee public transport with an integrated strategy -matching the role of the similarly-named body in London. "The tram and bus services will be fully integrated with tickets and timetabling delivered through one system to make journeys easier," said city transport convener Lesley Hinds. "Our first priority is to get the trams up and running. We'll launch the new brand and develop it in a way that places a focus on integrating and improving all modes of transport available in Edinburgh." The council plans to make Lothian Buses (Busco) and Edinburgh Trams (Tramco) report directly to Transport for Edinburgh (Topco). The 15-year financial projections estimate a profit of£3.7million over the period, with an operating surplus from year four.
