Alicante joins high-speed network

The171km-long 300km/h standard gauge high-speed line from Albacete to Alicante, in Spain, opened on June 18. This completes construction of a through high-speed standard gauge line from Madrid to Alicante, the section north from Albacete to Madrid having been in place since 2010. Nine high-speed train pairs will be operated daily by Spanish national rail operator Renfe from Madrid to Alicante.
