Class 508 proposals scuppered

Plans for the former Silverlink and Southeastern Class 508s to be re-formed for use by Transport for London have been abandoned. The idea had been for the three-car sets to be reformed into four-car units and refurbished. Some of the units had been kept in warm store for such a possibility as a return to traffic, but the contractual negotiations with the various parties stalled, and a closer examination of the condition of the sets suggested more work was required than originally envisaged.
