Heritage lottery support for steam boiler skills project

The Boiler and Engineering Skills Training Trust (BESTT) has received a stage 1 pass for its £386,200 bid to the Heritage Lottery Funding's Skills for the Future programme. The first-stage approval brings a £17,000 development grant towards working up the full stage 2 application. The project aims to develop a programme of training placements in boilershops -increasing the number of boilersmiths available to the heritage steam sector -encompassing boilers in ships, traction engines and stationary engines, as well as railways.
