Further to the letter from John Betts (June) regarding void tickets; they are not printed as test tickets but when individual tickets within a batch are faulty. This usually occurs when there is a magnetic write failure, i.e. when the printer is unable to encode the tickets with the relevant information to operate a ticket barrier gate due to a corrupt magnetic strip. The ticket machine then prints VOID VOID VOID VOID across the face of the ticket and issues another one.
