Fare-dodgers are depriving the rail business of an estimated £240million a year, according to figures published by the Association of Train Operating Companies. That's the equivalent of leasing an additional 920 inter-city or 1,500 commuter carriages... to which must be added the £21 m cost of installing ticket barriers.
