It is disappointing that the 'What Really Happened to Steam' article in the May issue contained what we consider to be ill-informed criticism of the RCTS and we therefore welcome this right of reply. In reading the article, by Roger Butcher of the HSBT group, I gained the impression that the RCTS is very much anti-HSBT, but this is far from the truth. Mr Butcher failed to mention that he was, with the full approval of the RCTS management committee, granted space to have a 900-word article published in the April 2010 edition of the RCTS magazine The Railway Observer (RO), appealing for information from society members. There was no suggestion in that article that any society branches should nominate a co-ordinator for the collection of data and the committee was not approached with a request for that to be initiated.
