The inaugural Railway Magazine/HRA award for services to railway preservation was presented to R H N (Dick) Hardy on February 9. RM editor Nick Pigott made the presentation to the former British Railways shedmaster during an awards ceremony at the Union Jack Club, Waterloo, telling him that he is "an inspiration to all in the preservation movement". Dick was given a framed certificate and a magnificent framed portrait of his beloved B12 locomotive, No. 8572, drawn specially by former North Norfolk Railway general manager David Madden.
