Germany fights European bid to dismantle its monopoly

Germany is objecting to European Commission moves to break up its state-owned railway monopoly. On January 9, the commissioners voted 25 to 1 in favour of unbundling' member states' railways. The only abstention was Germany's Commissioner Oettinger, who refused to vote for the policy and said his country will try to delay the change for as long as possible.
