Several weeks ahead of the start of electric services, Glasgow's Paisley Canal branch has been energised and driver-training has begun. Electrification of just under four miles of line from Corkerhill to Paisley Canal station started on September 22 after extensive preparatory work, and the line was energised on November 18. The £12million cost of the project has been delivered through a joint alliance between ScotRail and Network Rail. Engineers worked throughout the night checking the line and overhead equipment, before clearance was given to send out Class 380 EMU No. 380004 as the 10.08 Glasgow Central to Paisley Canal service, working diagrams along with the more usual Class 156 DMU.
