When is an extension not an extension? It might appear to be a riddle or to offer an intriguing debating point, but in this instance the answer is straightforward - when a whole new railway is built abutting the end of an existing line. This, then, is an unusual extension project. While the objective is to extend the Kent & East Sussex Railway from Bodiam, along 31/2 miles of original trackbed to Network Rail metals at Robertsbridge, the project is not being undertaken by the K&ESR but by a different organisation, the Rother Valley Railway.
