Double-headed A4s on ELR!

History was made on the East Lanes Railway on October 18 when visiting Gresley A4s Nos. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and 60009 Union of South Africa, double-headed a passenger train. Appearing as star guests at the railway's October 18-19 autumn steam gala, the streamliners stole the show in an after-dark double-header, with two of the day's passenger sets coupled together to form an 11-coach train. It is believed to be the first time that two A4s have hauled a passenger train in tandem. The presence of K4 No. 61994 The Great Marquess at the gala enabled the ELR to present an Eastern Region threesome.
