In mid-October, contractors were kitting-out the blue 4-6-0 with on train monitoring recorder (OTMR), train protection warning system (TPWS) and automatic warning system (AWS). As previously reported, its global system for mobile communications (GSMR) signaller interface equipment will be a mobile device. The loco's blast pipe still requires modification to suit the lower, Network Rail-gauge, single-chimney casting, with the Great Western Society hoping to trial the new arrangement at Didcot before the end of the year. However, the society reports that there is still an unspecified "gauge problem" with the locomotive, although it believes that it "may have a solution to that particular difficulty".
