WHHR to get its first Garratt following Russell gala disappointment

Beyer Peacock Garratt K1 (5292/1909) was offered for the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway's May 3-5 gala just after last month's edition of The RM went to press. As that issue reported, although the WHHR's Hunslet 2-6-2T Russell was likely to return to steam following overhaul around May, it was not going to be ready for the early May Bank Holiday gala. The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway made the 0-4-0+0-4-0 and a rake of vacuum-fitted stock available to the WHHR at no cost. It is the first Garratt to run on WHHR metals.
