I Really enjoyed the Railways and the Arts feature in the Christmas Souvenir Issue. Some of the paintings in the art section were nothing short of astounding! Regarding Rhythm of the Rails, I'd like to add to the authors' amazing list with 'Waiting for a Train' by Flash and the Pan. I used to have this tune in my head while waiting on East Putney station in the early '80s while I was at college. Back in the late '60s, I was 12 years old and I used to travel from Charing Cross down to Wadhurst on the slab-sided DEMUs to stay with my aunt. On one occasion, I decided to take my Portadine portable radio/record player and some '45s. Unfortunately, it wasn't fitted with an earphone socket and it wasn't long before I met 'Disgruntled of Tunbridge Wells' who informed me that "we do not want to listen to that noise, thank you very much!"
