Apple green'Pendolinos'for a new GNER under Alliance's East Coast plan

A proposal published by Alliance Rail Holdings could see'Pendolino'trains in LNER-style apple green livery operating on the East Coast Main Line. If approved by Network Rail and the Office of Rail Regulation, the proposals would see the new trains running in the livery of Great North Eastern Railway. This new GNER is a subsidiary of Alliance and has no connection with the former company of that name, which ran the East Coast franchise until 2007. Alliance Rail Holdings owns open access operator Grand Central and is itself part of Arriva UK, which is owned by Deutsche Bahn.
