A NEW LOCO AT THE VALE OF RHEIDOL

It has been a long and weaving journey that has included two sea crossings, but 65 years after a Welsh quarry driver threw his coat over a jet of steam shooting from the boiler of Hunslet 0-4-0ST Margaret, the former Penrhyn loco will be back in action this autumn, making its public debut at the Vale of Rheidol Railway's September 26-27 steam festival. Margaret has not worked since that day in 1950 when the right-hand corner of its boiler backhead began leaking alarmingly while it was working in Penrhyn quarry. It is understood that after throwing his coat over the high-pressure leak, the driver rapidly drove back to the shed before throwing out the fire!
