John Cameron's A4 No. 60009 Union of South Africa will haul the most important train in its 78-year life this month when it conveys Her Majesty the Queen over the reopened Borders line. However, with just days to go before the royal opening of the 30-mile route, the "Streak" has been undergoing urgent attention to damaged axleboxes to ensure that it is ready for the high-profile September 9 train (see full story on p84). A stop will also be made at Newtongrange for the Queen and Prince Philip to inspect the new station and meet locals. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will also travel on the Royal Train.
