'Lizzie' is back- but main line return not close

Princess Elizabeth is back, but a main line return is still some way off. After a 2½ year overhaul, the famed Stanier Pacific was rolled out of Tyseley Locomotive Works in fresh LMS crimson lake livery in time to take part in the former Birmingham Railway Museum's June 27-28 open weekend. "Lizzie" had also been in steam at Tyseley's October 2014 public event, but at that time it was still devoid of its boiler lagging and cladding. Contract works staff stepped up their efforts to ensure that No. 6201 was ready for the bi-annual show; particularly as the planned guest - No. 46233 Duchess of Sutherland - was unable to attend (see separate story). However, No. 6201 's third preservation overhaul still isn't quite complete. It will be restricted to the confines of Tyseley until it has been fitted with completely new TPWS (Train Protection Warning System) and OTMR (On Train Monitoring Recorder) equipment, as well as having its air-brake apparatus refitted. "We're far from finished," society chairman Clive Mojonnier told The Railway Magazine, "but Bob Meanley [project chief engineer] is well pleased with it so far."
