Irish 'Jeep' back on the road

Railway Preservation Society Ireland stalwart 2-6-4T No. 4 has returned to working order. The Derby-built LMS NCC'WT' tank engine last ran in December 2010 and becomes the Whitehead-based society's fourth operational main line engine, together with 'V4-4-0 No. 85 Merlin,'K2' 2-6-0 No. 461, and 'Q' No. 131. Newly outshopped No. 4 ventured onto the national network on June 14 light-engine from Whitehead to Carrickfergus, and later that day successfully took seven Mk 2 carriages to Belfast Central and return. The powerful 60mph-rated 4MT was meant to have taken its public railtour bow on June 19 on the Northern Irish 'Steam and Jazz'specials, but its final certification had yet to be signed off.
