Strathspey 0-6-0 waits on new tyres

THE return of Caledonian six-coupled No. 828 has been nudged back into 2017 because a new set of tender tyres were found to be oversized. The German-manufactured steel rings were too big to be shrunk onto the wheelsets at Riley & Sons of Heywood, with the Strathspey Railway being forced to repeat the order, but with revised tolerances. No blame has been apportioned on either the supplier or contractor.
